Looking Back 2/20
After last week's Looking Back story on the
National Guard
moving into Loudon in 1948, I have an interesting update on the
story. Turns out there's even more to the story and the grandson of the
man who was killed in the car crash is right here in Loudon. Ray Brewster was killed in questionable car crash in October 1948. Some say the sheriff and deputy shot out the tires on Brewster's car. Ray Brewster's grandson is, Jim Brewster, who works in the Loudon County Property Assessor's office. When Jim Brewster's grandfather died, his dad, Eddie, was seven years old with three younger brothers and his grandmother was pregnant with a fifth son. Eddie Brewster was the longtime volunteer fire chief in Philadelphia and worked at Oak Ridge K-25. He passed away in 1998. Apparently, the Brewster boys, of the day, were bluegrass musicians notable enough to be recognized in a bluegrass magazine. Jim sent me a copy of an article that appeared in a 1999 issue of Bluegrass Unlimited. This article is all about the death of Ray Brewster. Extremely interesting reading. Below is a link to the story. A bonus Look Back Here's A short article from the 1970 Lenoir City News Banner/Loudon County Herald special centennial edition. The article describes the proposed development that would be build after Tellico Dam was finished. TVA been lying to people since forever.
