Looking Back

Any of you that read my stuff, knows I love reading the old local news papers. You've seen me post lots of old pictures and stories from the past.

Years ago, all state news papers were archived on microfilm by the Tennessee Library and Archives. Those microfilms were available by going to your local library where you could view them on the old microfilm machines.

Some time ago, Loudon Liberian, Kate Brewster, was able to get lots of the old microfilms digitized where one could now view them on their own computer. Now I'm real happy. I could set and read through those papers all day.

I kept thinking that there had to be some way to make the old papers available on the internet but I know nothing about that. But Sarah, my wife does. According to her, we have to compress, upload through FTP to our server then blah, blah, blah. No idea what all that means but she did all those things, and now I can share a whole year of papers with you.

The old news papers were a lot like a weekly soap opera. You can just keep with everything going on through out the county.

My first offering will be The Loudon County Herald from 1975. Thought it would be fun to see what was going on in Loudon County 50 years ago. The old microfilm quality was just fair then going through all the conversions to make it available online, also hurts the quality a bit but I think it will be very viewable. They're in PDF format.

The 1975 paper is broken down in three sections. Click the links below to view.

January 9th 1975 thru May 15th, 1975

May 22nd thru September 11th 1975
