News Herald Arrest Report
Local man tries running from
police
A
Lenoir City man was arrested Nov. 24 following an attempt to
flee.
Watching a black GMC Yukon with a headlight out traveling on Highway 11 near Old Stage Road, Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chance Gray turned around and while attempting to catch up noticed the driver traveling at a high rate of speed.
Gray
attempted a traffic stop near Muddy Creek Road and ran the
vehicle’s tags through dispatch, which came back owned by
Daniel R. Meeker, 26, who had an active violation of parole
and other warrants out of Knox County.
The vehicle turned into Martel Estates and made “several circles” around the neighborhood before coming to a stop, Gray wrote in a report. Meeker then fled on foot.
“I then gave Mr.
Meeker multiple warnings to stop or I would send my K-9
but he ignored,” Gray wrote in a report. “I then sent my
K-9 Kora to apprehend Mr. Meeker, but he crossed a fence
that prevented her from catching him. After crossing the
fence, K-9 Kora began pulling me toward an open gate in
the back yard of (a residence on) Crestview Circle. Once
at the gate, a female opened a window and stated that
Mr. Meeker was in her home.”
Deputies entered the house and arrested Meeker. During a pat-down search, law enforcement located a syringe in Meeker’s pocket. A syringe was also found inside the vehicle.
Meeker was charged
with two counts of evading arrest, possession of drug
paraphernalia, violation or parole and lights required
on motor vehicle and held on $12,000 bond.
Man found with
methWhile on patrol Sunday, Lenoir City Police Officer
Riley Miller saw a blue Ford Mustang exit a motel
parking lot at a high rate of speed on U.S. Highway 321
near Interstate 75.
The driver pulled
into the left lane and abruptly hit the brakes to make a
U-turn without using a signal, which caused a vehicle
behind to nearly wreck.
Miller then
initiated a traffic stop at a nearby gas station. Randy
Scott Pride, 44, of Clinton, appeared nervous and was
making “several fidgety movements” inside the car, along
with not answering rational questions, Miller wrote in a
report.
“I had Pride step
out of the vehicle due to his deceptive behavior and to
speak with him about a citation,” Miller wrote in the
report. “While speaking with Pride about the citation, I
requested for a K-9 to conduct an open air sniff of the
vehicle.”
The dog
positively alerted officers of narcotics inside the
vehicle. Law enforcement located a large baggie with
a crystal-like substance and a regular-sized baggie
with a crystal-like substance, both of which tested
positive for methamphetamine. The baggies were
inside a McDonald’s bag on the passenger seat. Total
weight of the meth was 14.1 ounces.
Officers also located a digital scale, two glass pipes and a drug ledger with different weights and prices.
Pride was
charged with possession of drug paraphernalia,
manufacture, delivery, sale or possession of meth
and driving while in possession of meth and held
without bond.
