News Herald Arrest Report
Local man charged with
domestic assault A Lenoir City man is facing a domestic assault charge after he allegedly threatened to kill a woman and himself. Responding to a call of a domestic dispute in the 200 block of Kelly Lane, Loudon County Sheriffs Office Deputy Kenny Palmer arrived on scene and separated the two individuals. Palmer and Deputy Brad Rayfield spoke to a woman who said she awoke to an extremely high temperature in the apartment. After turning down the thermostat, the woman said she went back to bed and that is when Charles Matthew James, 24, Lenoir City, became angry and started cursing her, according to the report. The woman told James the two did not need to be together. She told deputies that James then became crazy and would not let the woman leave the apartment. The victim stated that Mr. James got a sword and stated that if she tried to leave that he would kill her and himself both, Palmer wrote in his report. The victim stated that she went back upstairs to calm down and Mr. James came upstairs, got on top of her and attempted to kiss her and (while) trying to pull her on top of him caused a red mark on her side. James admitted he threatened to kill himself if the woman left him, and noted he did attempt to hug and console the victim, according to the report.
