Lenoir City woman charged in hit

A Lenoir City woman was arrested Aug. 4 after a car was struck and the driver fled the scene.

Lenoir City Police were dispatched to a possible hit and run. Officers spoke with two witnesses who said Jennifer Leona Mayfield, 49, had become angry, hit one of their vehicles with her vehicle and fled the scene.

One witness claimed Mayfield had been drinking throughout the day and was heavily intoxicated.

Officers drove to Mayfield’s residence and found a vehicle with damage matching the description of witnesses.

Mayfield attempted to flee when she saw officers approaching. She then resisted arrest and officers needed to use force to place her into handcuffs. Mayfield had slurred speech and a strong smell of alcohol, according to the report.

Officers also noticed another vehicle at the residence. A relative told officers Mayfield was attempting to switch vehicles to avoid arrest.

Mayfield refused to walk willingly to the patrol car and was forcefully placed inside the vehicle, according to reports. She fell asleep moments after being placed in the patrol car.

Mayfield was charged with violation of implied consent, leaving the scene of an accident, resisting arrest and driving under the influence and released on $6,000 bond.

• Richard Lee Thompson, 40, Philadelphia, was charged with manufacturing, delivery, sale or possession of meth and assisting other agency and held on $5,000 bond.

• Hannah D. Townsend, 59, Knoxville, was charged with public intoxication and released without bond.

• Kenneth Edward Watts, 27, Knoxville, was charged with simple possession/casual exchange and manufacturing, delivery, sale or possession of meth and held on $12,000 bond.
