News Herald Arrest Report
Lenoir City man locks burglar
in basement
A Knoxville woman was arrested Sunday after breaking into a Lenoir City residence. Lenoir City Police Officer Jordan Samuels was dispatched to a home on Kingston Street in response to a burglary in progress. The burglar, later identified as Emily Nicole Bethancourt, 26, was in the basement of the home trying to steal items when the homeowner locked her in until officers arrived. Samuels opened the basement door and saw Bethancourt sitting on the floor. Samuels ordered Bethancourt to come out of the basement and placed her under arrest, according to a report. The homeowner told officers he had been sleeping in the living room when he heard banging in the basement. When he went to investigate, he saw the door open and noticed clothes and toys originally inside the basement sitting outside the door. When he first attempted to shut Bethancourt inside the basement, she tried to cut him with a yellow box cutter, Samuels wrote in a report.
When Samuels spoke with
Bethancourt, he said she had slurred speech and was unsteady on her
feet. He asked if she was under the influence of any medications or
narcotics, but she responded no. At the jail, she admitted to
using heroin the day before, Samuels wrote in a report.
Bethancourt was charged with public intoxication, theft of property under $1,000, aggravated assault and aggravated burglary and held on $27,000 bond. Man found in woods
A Lenoir City
man was arrested on two active warrants after being mistakenly
linked to a nearby theft.
Loudon County Sheriffs Office Deputy Shane Gaumer responded to a business on U.S. Highway 321 for a report of theft of items from a barge. The owner believed the thief was living in the woods near the edge of the water. The items stolen were a welding lead, security light, thermometer and trash pump valued at a combined $820. The owner told deputies a small, black car and a man were located in the woods not far from where the barge was docked, according to a report. Gaumer and Deputy Craig Brewer found the car one mile from the barge. Dispatch told Gaumer that officers with Lenoir City Police Department had been looking for a black car that should be occupied by Dustin Lee Landon, 38, who was allegedly suicidal at the time of a call a week earlier, Gaumer wrote in a report. Gaumer identified Landon, who told deputies he was in the woods because he became stuck. Dispatch confirmed Landon had two active warrants out of Loudon County. Landon told deputies he was still suicidal and wants to end it. A search of Landons car failed to locate any of the stolen items from the barge.
Landon was charged with
manufacture, sale, delivery of meth, possession of drug
paraphernalia and violation of probation and held on $90,000
bond.
