A
Lenoir City man is facing attempted murder charges after an
alleged shooting on Childress Avenue in Sweetwater March 7.
Sweetwater Police Det. Kevin Watson said officers went to a house on the street just before 7 p.m. and talked to a man who said he was driving west on Childress Avenue when he saw a red car stopped in the roadway. The witness told Watson he saw one man standing outside the car and another man walking up the driveway. The witness said the first man got into the car and he saw Caalob Norris was the driver in the red car. The witness said as he was driving by, he heard gunfire and realized he’d been shot. The victim said the red car took off at a high rate of speed.
Watson said a
passenger in the victim's car said Norris was the driver
of the car and that “we did nothing wrong and got shot
at.”
Watson said the victim was hit three times in the torso and was taken to UT Medical Center for treatment, where his injuries were not thought to be life threatening.
Watson said
officers then talked to the man who had been walking
up the driveway who said it had been Norris driving
the car that had dropped him off. The man said he
was walking toward the house when he heard gunshots.
He said Norris’ mother was in the front seat, but he
didn’t know who fired the gun.
Watson said on March 8 he was able to talk to Norris' mother and she waived her rights and agreed to speak with Watson. She reportedly told Watson they were taking one of the men to his friend’s house and, after they had dropped him off, a car came down the road toward them. She said as the car slowly passed them, the people in it were laughing. She said one of the guys in the car, not identified, had shot her house with her kids inside months ago. She said when Norris heard the laughter, that’s when he pulled out a gun and started shooting at the car. She told Watson her son took them to Lenoir City and dropped them off and she didn’t know where he went after leaving. Norris, 19, Kelly Lane, Lenoir City, is charged with two counts of attempted murder. |
