News Herald Arrest Report
Lenoir City man detained after suspected auto theft attempt A Lenoir City man now faces several charges after reportedly trying to steal a vehicle while intoxicated. On Thursday, Oct. 24, Officer Jesse Garren with the Lenoir City Police Department, was dispatched to a call for a suspicious person on West 7th Avenue. Upon his arrival, he witnessed a Hispanic male, later identified as 30-year old Hector Domingo- Sales, in the driveway with a witness. According to the report obtained by The News-Herald, Domingo- Sales was immediately detained by officers until further investigation could be completed. Initial evaluation of Domingo- Sales noted that he wasn’t wearing any shoes, stumbled when walking, had unzipped shorts and slurred his speech. Furthermore, Domingo- Sales’ eyes were bloodshot and he was reportedly repeating the same phrases in Spanish. The arrest report also stated that there was also a strong odor of alcohol coming from Domingo- Sales as officers tried to converse with him. Officer Sparks and Lieutenant Butler spoke with Domingo- Sales about the incident. The resident who initially called the police stated that he was inside the house when he suddenly heard a loud noise coming from the driveway around 2:30 a.m. The male resident said that once he made it outside to investigate the noise, he witnessed Domingo-Sales opening and closing the driver side door to a gray 2012 BMW X5 that was parked in the carport of the residence. The BMW X5 was parked unlocked in the carport, but didn’t have the key fob inside of it so it was unable to be started. The male witness told officers that he approached the vehicle to ask Domingo- Sales what he was doing and immediately called 911. The witness stated he saw Domingo-Sales in the driver’s seat attempting to press the push start button of the vehicle. The witness believed that Domingo-Sales had entered the vehicle with the intent to steal it, because he didn’t have the effective consent from the property owner to occupy the car. The witness further informed officers that the suspect was stumbling and falling over after he had exited the vehicle when he first confronted him. When Domingo-Sales was asked by officers what he was doing at the address, he couldn’t seem to provide any information about his whereabouts and what he was doing at the residence. Based on the statement from the witness and the lack of effective consent from the property owner, along with the observation of the officers on scene, Domingo-Sales was then placed under arrest for burglary and public intoxication.
