LCUB warns customers of
potential scam (WVLT) -- The LCUB is warning customers of a potential scam involving an unknown caller pretending to be an LCUB employee demanding payment on late bills. On Wednesday, the LCUB reported a large number of scam attempts from their customers in the Loudon and Knox County areas. The scammer calls customers, tells them that they are late on their power bill and demands immediate payment. According to the LCUB, the scammer's number shows up as 844-687-5282 and is forwarding any return calls to the LCUB to make the demands seem legitimate. LCUB asks that customers remember that they will not call commercial or residential customers for past due or late accounts. They send out monthly statements marked "past due." If you receive a call from someone claiming to represent the LCUB demanding payment, hang up and contact LCUB's Safety and Security Office at 865-988-0784. You can also email details of the incident to safety@lcub.com Contact your local law enforcement officials if you believe you may have been a victim of this scam and provided the scammer with personal and payment information. |
