LCUB prepares to keep the power on, ready to help Carolinas if necessary

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- State lines separate Tennessee from the Carolinas. Each state has the same goal, which is making sure every home has power.

While hundreds of thousands of folks in the Carolinas are without power due to Florence.

Lenior City Utility Board told WVLT news how they handle emergencies.

"We always operate in a state of readiness as far as emergency plans go," said Matthew Fagiana, who is the director of safety, security, and risk management at Lenoir City Utility Board.

Weather in East Tennessee can be unpredictable. LCUB has crews on standby 24 hours a day.

Matthew Fagiana with LCUB said one of the biggest problems for our areas is the wind from a storm.

"You get high winds that come in from an event like Florence," said Fagiana. "Those trees that aren't stable will fall over often taking down wire and poles."

The leftovers from Florence are moving into East Tennessee. If folks lose power, LCUB is ready to respond.

Fagiana said he doesn't have crews helping out in the Carolinas as of Sunday, but he's ready to send help if the call comes in.

"Should they ever ask us to provide personal, our general manager would do that," said Fagiana.

Fagiana said the hardest part about dealing with the aftermath of a storm like Florence, is the flooding.

"Those folks have a dangerous job ahead of them and certainly it will take some time," said Fagiana.
