Landfill Expansion
Fore Note: The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has issued an expansion permit to the Mattock Bend landfill. This will increase the life of the landfill for many years assuring Loudon County of consistent, affordable disposal facility for many years. Loudon County (AKA Matlock Bend) Class I Landfill Major Modification Approved The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), Division of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) has issued a permit major modification to Loudon County. The facility, identified as Loudon County (AKA Matlock Bend) Class I Landfill (SNL530000203), is located in Loudon County at 21712 Highway 72 North, Loudon, Tennessee (latitude 35.748033 N/longitude -84.411731 W). This permit allows construction, operation, closure, and post-closure care of the Class I disposal facility for waste materials classified as domestic wastes, commercial wastes, institutional wastes, municipal solid wastes, bulky wastes, landscaping and land clearing wastes, industrial wastes, construction/demolition wastes, farming wastes, shredded automotive tires, dead animals, and/or certain wastes having similar characteristics and approved by TDEC. No hazardous wastes, as regulated by the Tennessee Hazardous Waste Management Act (Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 68-212-101, et. seq.) and the Rules adopted pursuant to the Act, shall be accepted for disposal at this facility. DSWM made the draft of this permit available for review during a 45-day public comment period which ended on December 23, 2024. DSWM has prepared a Response to Comments document, which summarizes comments received during the public comment period.
