Lakeshore Loudon

At last week's Loudon city planning commission meeting, the body unanimously approved, "with conditions", the preliminary plat of what's being called Lakeshore Loudon. This is phase one of the development on the old Hutch Manufacturing property. The city/LUB, bought the property in 2017 and has already spent millions to buy and clean up the property. The conditions with the approval were many and complex, from bonds, right of way improvements, utilities and so on.

Loudon city mayor, interim manager and former realtor, Jeff Harris, was on hand to support the plan. The plan was originally announced by the mayor and others back in 2021 and construction was to have begun in early 2022.

At the meeting, it was obvious there were still many unanswered questions on the development. Phase one would include 180 apartments and town homes. The developer stated that there would be 200 families living there eventually. He also said they hoped to begin grade work within 30-60 days with construction to begin within 5-6 months.

At no time during the discussion did anyone discuss how all the traffic from the development would access Hwy. 11.
