News Herald Arrest Report
Knox man jailed for repeated
stalking
A
Knoxville man was charged Saturday with harassment, stalking
and violation of order of protection following repeat
offenses spanning nearly a decade.
A
woman contacted Loudon County Sheriffs Office Sgt. Det.
Kevin Kirkland on Jan. 3 to report Stephen D. Pershing, 74,
for stalking and putting the woman in fear for her life. The
woman said she and Pershing had a brief relationship in
2015, but he has continued to pursue her since despite being
repeatedly told to leave her alone.
The woman filed an order of protection against Pershing in
2018 following an attempted kidnapping and was granted an
extension in October. Pershing has continued to violate the
order of protection by sending her flowers, cards, letters
and coins, leaving similar items at her brothers residence
and tying ribbons on trees on the womans property.
She claimed to
have received more than 100 items from Pershing since
2015, even though she has never responded. Some of the
cards and letters have threatening messages toward the
woman and her fiancι, and Pershing has also posted
threatening messages on Facebook.
The woman said she
believes Pershing is unstable and will attempt to kidnap
her again. He was arrested Feb. 1 in Knox County and
transported Saturday to Loudon County Jail.
Pershing was
charged with harassment (non-verbal threat), harassment
(verbal threat), stalking and violation of order of
protection/restraining order and held without bond.
