Kids making a difference while selling lemonade
LOUDON CO, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Drew Myers,13, started a lemonade stand years ago to raise money for childhood cancer. Now, he has been selling lemonade for 7 summers in a row, raising over $ 10,000 for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. Alex was a little girl that passed away from cancer. She started a lemonade stand at 4-years-old when she was diagnosed raising over $1 million dollars. After she passed away, the Myers, and kids all over the world decided to continue on her legacy by selling lemonade during the summer. Drew started with a goal of raising $10,000 by the time he graduated high school. Now that he surpassed that goal by sixth grade, he has doubled that amount and hopes to make $20,000 before graduation. His mother, Jennifer Yarbrough says she has no doubt he can do it. "I'm really proud that he want's to do it.", said Yarbrough. " But it's not just effecting us, it's been a ripple effect on our friends and family that now know of this great foundation." This year, one of Drew's friends decided to get involved with volunteering at the stand after seeing how big of an impact Drew has made over the years. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation is something any kid can take part in during the summer. If you visit their website, you and your kids can get started planning your very own lemonade stand for a good cause for next summer. |
