Jewelry burglars face multiple charges

Three people passing through Lenoir City were recently apprehended after an attempted jewelry burglary.

On Tuesday, July 23, at 8:30 p.m., Lenoir City Police Department officers responded to a report of a theft at a local retail store in Lenoir City.

Upon arrival, officers detained three occupants at Abbie Drive and Highway 321 who were occupying a dark-colored Dodge van matching the description of the vehicle the suspects left in.

The local store’s loss prevention staff reported the three individuals, who were later identified as 27-year-old Chastity Alyse Kay Williams of Cosby, Tenn., 19-yearold Willie Devry Edwin Williams of Ontario, Ohio, and 18-year-old Kalique Latife Jeter-Lipscoms, of Columbus, Ohio. A police report stated the trio forced and broke open a jewelry display case and stole several pieces of jewelry valued at more than $3,000.

The three suspects then made it past all points of sale and made no attempt to pay … and even fled from loss prevention staff when confronted at the door.

A search warrant was granted and executed for the Dodge van on Tuesday, July 23.

The result of the search revealed stolen property and credit cards issued to a victim named Dorsey. Two receipts for purchased jewelry at City Jewelers totaling $4,876 for two 10-karat Cuban gold chains using the victim’s credit cards were also located in the van. (One 10-karat gold chain was in the van and the other was located on Chastity Alyse Kay Williams’ person, according to police.

According to the report, vast amounts of property, three firearms, collectible coins and jewelry — along with personal identifying documents belonging to a man named Rainer — were also located in the van.

The total value of property stolen from this second victim was estimated to be around $4,300.

Further investigation revealed that both victims reside in Georgia and were contacted and confirmed their belongings were stolen. All three suspects violated TCA section 39-14-103 — Theft of Property with intent to deprive the two identified victims of their property, knowingly obtained or exercised control over their property without the owner’s effective consent.
