Intoxicated driver asks: ‘How are they going to frame me this time?’
Late Wednesday evening — on April 9 — Deputy Ryne Miller of the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a reckless driver on Interstate 75 in Philadelphia. Dispatch warned that the driver was driving erratically and well under the sanctioned 40-mph speed limit. When Miller located the vehicle, a white Volkswagen Passat, he noticed the danger immediately in the car driving well under a safe level and struggling to stay in one lane. Miller then turned on his emergency lights and stopped the vehicle. As soon as Miller approached the vehicle, the driver started voicing her disdain. She was reported as saying, “How are they going to frame me this time?” according to the report, handing Miller an entire stack of papers along with her wallet and telling the officer to “find them” in regards to her requested license and registration. The driver was identified as Melanie Alyse Lyn, from Chattanooga, who claimed to be coming from Ooltewah despite arriving in Philadelphia southbound from Knoxville. When asked where she was going, she again said Ooltewah — adding that she was at her best friend’s grave. After this, Miller asked Lyn to exit the vehicle, which she refused to do. He asked again multiple times and, according to reports, she not only refused but turned up her radio while ignoring additional commands. Miller then called backup, as Sgt. Peterfield and other units responded to the scene. … Peterfield was able to talk Lyn into getting out of the vehicle, where she was then placed in handcuffs. Lyn refused standardized field sobriety tests and incidentally implied consent. Due to this, she was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. Upon arrival at the Loudon County Jail, she was given the opportunity to again perform her sobriety tests, all of which she performed poorly on.
