Impossible Situation
County schools are slated to resume in August with
about 800 signed up for virtual and about 4,000 headed back to the
classroom.
School administrators are in an impossible situation. We all know that within the first hour, day, week, a student or teacher or bus driver, cafeteria worker will test positive for the virus. Then what? We have adults working in offices now that if one employee tests positive, they shut down the whole operation. It's hard to imagine how this will ever work. I wish it would but I'm doubtful. Maybe an option would be, just shut down public education all together till next August. Send the kids home, send the teachers home, send the administrators home. Per student spending in county schools with local, state and federal funding is about $9,500.00 per kid. Take all the money saved and distribute it to the parents. I've heard suggestions that groups of parents could come together and hire a teacher to teach a small group of kids privately. Or we could just go back to operating like we have in the past with colds and flu. If someone is too sick to go to school, stay home. This whole situation is insane. |
