Illegal Annexation 10
Big Crowd
At Monday's county commission meeting, commissioners
voted 7-3 to take any and all legal actions needed to invalidate Lenoir
City's illegal annexation. 2nd district commissioners, William Jenkins and Rosemary Quillen and 4th district commissioner, Gary Whitfield voted against taking legal action. Commissioners Chase Randolph, Bill Geames, 1st district, Bill Satterfield, 3rd district, Joe Morrison, Van Shaver, 5th district, Adam Waller, 6th district and Henry Cullen, 7th district voted in favor of legal action. Previously, the commission had hired attorney, Kyle Baisley, to represent the county in the matter. Baisley was at the meeting to give his legal opinion on the illegal annexations and to take questions from commissioners. No Lenoir City officials were at the meeting. Commissioner William Jenkins was the main defender of the city's illegal actions, many times disputing the county attorney. The commission meeting room was at standing room only by the time the discussion took place. When asked to stand if they were at the meeting in opposition to the city's illegal actions, nearly everyone in the room stood. Several residents spoke in opposition to Lenoir City's actions. Residents from nearly every district were in attendance to show opposition. No one except commissioner Jenkins showed any support for the city. The lawsuit should be filed soon.
