LOUDON CO., Tenn. (WVLT) - Multiple crashes shut down I-75 South in Loudon County Friday afternoon, according to officials with the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office.

The crashes were just three miles apart.

One crash was at mile marker 74 near the Tennessee River Bridge involving seven cars. The rescue squad brought a boat because one of the vehicles went over the bridge and into the water. The Tennessee Highway Patrol later said on Saturday that this was a deadly crash but was unable to provide additional information.

The other crash was just three miles south at mile marker 71. The crash had at least one injury and an ejection, according to LCSO. Information regarding the injury has not been released.
 

THP was called to investigate both crashes.

The interstate was closed for several hours, reopening Saturday morning after a vehicle was recovered from the Tennessee River late Friday night.

Crews with Priority Ambulance Service, Loudon County Fire/Rescue, Loudon Fire Department, Loudon County Emergency Management, Loudon Police Department, and Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency were also on scene.


LCSO: Vehicle recovered from Tennessee River after crash on I-75

LOUDON COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — The vehicle that went into the Tennessee River after a crash on I-75 South in Loudon County Friday Afternoon has been recovered, according to the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office. The crash caused the roadway to be closed for several hours.

The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office released just after 6:45 p.m. Friday that I-75 South was shut down at the Tennessee River Bridge (mile marker 74) for the wreck that involved multiple vehicles. Just before 6 a.m. Saturday, the sheriff’s office reported that the interstate was open again.

LCSO initially stated that the preliminary reports from the scene indicate that one vehicle went over the side of the bridge and into the river. The agency added that the wreck did cause injuries, but it did not share how many people were injured at the time of the initial release.

On Sunday, the sheriff’s office confirmed to 6 News that the vehicle that went into river had been recovered.

Southbound traffic was turned around to get off of I-75 at Exit 76 onto Sugarlimb Road. The sheriff’s office added that northbound traffic is being backed up from the wreck as well as an unrelated wreck with injury at mile marker 71.

Drivers are asked to slow down, move over, and seek alternate routes.

First responders with the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Priority Ambulance Service, Loudon County Fire and Rescue, Loudon Fire Department, Loudon County Emergency Management, Loudon Police Department, and Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency responded to the scene.
