Hypothetically Speaking
Hypothetically speaking, lets say you're a small city
in east Tennessee and let's say you gave your fire hall away to a
moonshine operation. Let's also say you didn't plan too far ahead with
where you would move the fire department to. Maybe they could move the
fire department next door to the old fire hall to a now vacant utility
building. Good idea. How much could that cost? Should be pretty cheap? In reality, Lenoir City government officials decided to relocate the fire hall at the old LCUB customer service building. A number of unforeseen issues came up pushing the costs well above expectations. City officials, claiming not to have the money to build the new fire hall, looks to the usual cash cow, LCUB. A couple months ago, the LCUB power board/city council voted unanimously to let LCUB rate payers foot the bill for the new fire hall, voting to give $250,000.00 from the water and sewer department and $450,000.00 from the electric department to pay for the new fire hall. Problem solved. $700,000.00 for the new fire hall paid for by the LCUB rate payers. All's well in Lenoir City. |
