News Herald Arrest Report
Homeless woman endangers young
children
A
homeless woman was arrested Saturday on multiple child
endangerment charges after allegedly passing out drunk in a
car.
Loudon County Sheriffs Office Deputy Chance Gray was dispatched to a camp site off Morganton Cemetery Road to investigate reports of a possible prowler. At the camp, Gray saw a gold Chevrolet Trailblazer with three small children in the back seat, a woman passed out in the front seat and all four windows rolled down, according to a report. Gray could smell alcohol as he approached the car. Gray and Deputy Billy Freeman tried to wake the woman, later identified as Rachel Denise Hodge, 32, but were unsuccessful after multiple attempts. Gray spoke to the children in the car, aged 3, 6 and 8, to determine if Hodge had medical problems.
The children told
Gray that Hodge takes special medicine to sleep and
that her medicine was pineapple and came from the wine
store, Gray wrote in a report.
Gray asked
dispatch to send fire department and Emergency Medical
Service responders because Hodge would not wake up. She
became responsive before EMS showed up. She told Gray
she was homeless and depressed because her husband died
and that she drinks alcohol to sleep and deal with her
depression.
Hodge told Gray
she was unable to take care of the children and wanted
deputies to take them so they could have a better life.
Hodge was charged
with three counts of child abuse or neglect/endangerment
and held on $7,500 bond.
Man threatens
womanA Loudon man was arrested May 18 after threatening
to kill a woman.
LCSO Deputy Mark
Rodriguez responded to Fort Loudoun Medical Center for
reports of a domestic assault at a residence on Saloli
Lane in Tellico Village. Rodriguez met a woman at the
hospital who said she was arguing with Ronald Simmons,
60, when he allegedly began physically assaulting her.
According to a
report from Rodriguez, Simmons grabbed the woman by the
arms and pushed her over a short wall. She landed on her
back and hit her head. The woman grabbed her phone, but
Simmons knocked it out of her hand. Simmons then grabbed
the woman by the throat and told her he was going to
kill her, Rodriguez wrote in the report.
The woman got to
her car, but Simmons would not let her leave. The woman
laid on the horn in hopes neighbors would hear her.
Simmons let the woman go, and she drove herself to FLMC.
Officers later
spoke with Simmons at the home. His story was
unclear and he deflected questions, according to the
report.
Simmons was
charged with domestic assault-felony and
interference with an emergency call and released on
$6,000 bond.
