News Herald Arrest Report
High-speed chase ends with DUI
arrest
A Loudon man was arrested after a high-speed chase on two main Loudon County roads. Loudon Police Officer James Padgett responded July 12 to help Field Training Officers Ben Everett and Trey Clemmer with a belligerent man trying to purchase alcohol at a gas station. Everett told Padgett the man, later identified as William Richard Brooks, 29, left in a white vehicle headed south on Highway 72.
Padgett watched a white vehicle pass another vehicle in the
middle lane of Hwy. 72. Padgett activated the patrol
vehicles lights and sirens, but Brooks did not stop.
Brooks continued on Hwy. 72
at high rates of speed before turning right on Highway 11
and accelerating, according to the report. Brooks then
turned off the highway and came to a stop.
Padgett used force to remove Brooks, who smelled of alcohol, from the vehicle. Brooks was then arrested and placed in Padgetts patrol vehicle. A search of Brooks vehicle located a 9mm handgun and a tall, empty can of alcohol in the front passenger floor board. While being transported to Loudon County Jail, Brooks was belligerent and made verbal threats to Padgett.
