Highland Park Annexation

On July 14, the Lenoir City council will vote to annex an island of county property into the city. Problem is, this annexation will require input from the county and an interlocal agreement, neither of which has been achieved, as of yet. It's still very unclear why the property owner is requesting annexation or what the plans are for the property or why the city would consider annexing a small 3 acre parcel into the city. The closest city property to the requested annexation is mayor Tony Aikens property.

Under county zoning regulations, the property could one day be developed into four or five, half acre residential lots. Under city zoning policy, the property could be developed into as many as 70 apartments. Again, no idea why the property owner wants annexation, but here's one potential possibility. Also, under county regulations, the property is and could be commercial. However no business could ever sell beer from that property because it sets within the exclusion zone due to the proximity to a church, a school and a daycare.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see what the city will do in time.
