Here's Your Sign 2
Tony Aikens And Jennifer Wampler Campaign Signs
Currently Behind Roane State
Back in June, the Lenoir City council voted to implement political campaign sign rules for the city. The rules would be, absolutely no political signs would be allowed on city property or city right-of-ways. The reason the mayor and council members gave for the sign ban was, people just hate to see campaign signs and it just looks bad. But candidates could put signs, on legally registered vehicles, and leave them behind Roane State Community College during early voting. Looks like mayor Aikens and councilwoman, Jennifer Wampler, decided to get an early jump on early voting. Last week, Aikens and Wampler left their respective vehicles, with campaign signs, in two parking spots, 30 days before early voting even starts. Early voting beginning October 16th and runs through October 31st. So apparently, Aikens and Wampler plan to leave their vehicles parked on the street for 45 days, taking up limited parking for the students and staff at the school. I'm sure people don't hate to see these signs. They didn't leave much room for Mike Henline and Eddie Simpson either. But there's more. That ban on campaign signs on city property and city right-of-ways, because people just hate to see those signs, doesn't seem to have taken full effect. Wampler, Mike Henline and Eddie Simpson have signs all over the city that violate their own ordinance. In some instances, some signs might be just inches outside the right-or-ways. I guess in that case, people don't hate to see those signs. What hypocrites. We all know what their sign ban was all about. It's just to keep any challengers from putting out signs in high visible spots. I guess the old saying fits well here, Rules for thee, but not for me.
