Helping Out 3

In one last visit to the matter of the dirt being removed from the the Kingston Street Laundromat, by the city. I want to do my part to help out. It was brought to my attention, by a reader, that about a mile away from the Laundromat, and much closer to the Adesa Drive sink hole, there is a mountain of free dirt. Since the whole reason for trucking the dirt from the Laundromat was to save the city some money, here's a chance where the mayor could save a lot of money.

Beside the new 265 apartment complex on Town Creek Parkway, there is a huge pile of dirt free for the taking. I was afraid the mayor wasn't aware of the free dirt, so I just wanted to make him aware. Of course as the mayor said, the city and LCUB make it a practice to remove dirt from construction sites, maybe he doesn't need any extra dirt. Oddly, I've had two contractors, who work in the city, say the mayor has never cleaned up any of their job sites.

Anyway, just trying to do my part to help out.

You will recall, last year, the owners of the Laundromat, Mayor Tony Aikens and Lenoir City Treasurer Jim Wilburn, sold the business to the new owners for $500,000.00. Then just ten days later, at the next city council meeting, mayor Aikens asked the city council to let him give, quit claim, the adjacent lot, owned by the city, to the new owners of the Laundromat. Of course, the council dutifully did what the mayor told them to do.

Just a few months ago, the new owners began an addition to the building on the free city lot the mayor gave them. That's what generated the dirt and debris that was being hauled off last week. The new addition seems to be getting close to completion.

Then you will remember, at last week's city council, mayor Aikens went on a bit of a tirade over some mysterious blog or social media post. Everyone thought he was talking about me, but it couldn't have been.

According to Aikens statements at the council meeting, the dirt was moved on Wednesday, the 8th. Aikens says he was informed about the dirt move on Thursday the 9th. I didn't publish the story until Monday, the 13th. So if Aikens and the city administrator were discussing the matter on the 9th, and the city attorney was investigating shortly after, then the story on my website on the 13th had nothing to do with any of it. If it was about my website, Aikens, the city manager and the city attorney would have had to have done all their talking and investigating between Monday morning to 6:00 Monday evening, before the council meeting. I've searched social media and blogs for any stories about the dirt move, haven't found any. Something just doesn't add up.

I was pretty sure he wasn't talking about me anyway when he said, "people out in social media who operates blogs tell half truths or out and out lies." He knows me better than that.

I guess if I were on social media or blogs, this is where I'd say LOL.
