In October 1967, just days before the planned opening, the brand new Lenoir City High School Gymnasium blew up. I was in 3rd grade at Nichols Elementary. We were told of the explosion and that many students may have been killed. Fortunately, that miraculously wasn't the case. Below is the news story on the explosion.
