The first portion of the City of Greenback vs
Greenback Fire Department judgment was released last month with
a statement that the second judgment was entered last week.
The second judgment was to deal with the request
of the city that former mayor, Tom Peeler, pay the city's legal
fees for the matter. The order states that the plaintiff and
defendant resolved the matter and the case is dismissed. The
judgment does not state if any, or how much, Peeler was required
to pay
Back in April of 2019, the City of Greenback
filed a lawsuit against the Greenback Fire Department and former
Mayor Tom Peeler. The suit claimed that Peeler who was no longer
the mayor, illegally signed two quit claim deeds to the fire
department giving them property that belonged to the city. The
city was asking for the property back and for Mr. Peeler to pay
the city's legal fees for the suit.
The first judgment in the case was entered
last month. It addresses the property in question and states
that the quit claim are null and void which returns the property
back to the city.
