News Herald Arrest Report
Georgia teen arrested
following wreck
A
Georgia teen was arrested Saturday in Loudon County after
wrecking his vehicle two days prior while trying to evade
law enforcement.
Keyman Brown, 19, of Sylvester, Ga., was spotted speeding at over 100 mph by a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper Thursday near mile marker 66 on Interstate 75. The trooper pulled out from the median with lights and siren activated, but Brown did not appear to slow or yield to the emergency equipment. As the trooper gave chase, he observed Brown move into the emergency lane to pass vehicles and weave through heavy traffic, peaking at 117 mph. Given the reckless conduct and disregard for the safety of others shown by the driver and the similar risk necessary in following him, the trooper opted to end the chase and contact local law enforcement to be on the lookout for the vehicle.
A few moments
later, the trooper noticed traffic ahead slowing and saw
the vehicle being driven by Brown severely demolished
off the right side of the interstate with smoke coming
from under the hood. After notifying dispatch of the
crash and requesting an ambulance and fire department
assistance, the trooper went to check on the driver.
Brown crawled from the drivers side of the vehicle and came staggering out. The trooper ordered him to lay in front of him in the grass, but as he tried to gather information, Brown was more interested in calling his friends and mother. The car burned up, but the trooper learned from both Brown and his mother that a gun had been in the vehicle. Brown was transported to Turkey Creek Medical Center for injuries and warrants were issued for his arrest. He was taken Saturday to Loudon County Jail. Brown was charged with evading arrest and reckless endangerment and released on $60,000 bond. Feb. 26
