Greenback Quarry 5
Last weeks
story, GB Quarry 4,
generated a Facebook response from Rodney Murphy, the gentleman who
wants to open another rock quarry in the city of Greenback. See below.
********** Mr. Murphy, Blount county resident and businessman, seemed to take great issue that I identified failed developer as his partner, yet goes on to heap praise on Mr. Ross. Just the simplest of Google searches of Mike Ross of Blount County, will show a lot of results of Mr. Ross's previous business dealings. So if Mr. Murphy wants to associate his plans with Mike Ross, that's on him. Murphy said, some of Mike Ross's projects "have not ended well", that's a huge understatement. Murphy also suggest I need to get my facts straight and I need to contact the Greenback attorney and his attorney. I did have a conversation with the Greenback attorney and nothing I heard from her changes any of the facts of the procedure required for the Murphy Gang to open a quarry in the city. I also called his attorney but haven't heard back from him as of yet. Finally, Mr. Murphy invited me to his place of business to "figure something out". Not sure what that means. Apparently, Mr. Murphy has forgotten that I've already been to his business once to "figure something out". Back in March, I was invited along with 3rd district commissioner, Bill Satterfield, who represents Greenback, to attend a meeting with Murphy at his business to discuss his plan for a new quarry. I was quite surprised when I got there to see Mike Ross in attendance. I asked Ross what his part in this project was and he said he was Murphy's consultant. That was a giant red flag right there. Also in attendance was another man named Darrell Tipton. Didn't know him but later learned he is a realtor and a member of the Blount County Planning Commission. This meeting was back when everything was still peaches and cream and Mr. Murphy was promising to shower the city of Greenback and the Greenback school with money and and give free land to the fire department. The discussion centered around the procedural process through the county and city for a quarry and whether the residents of Greenback would support opening another quarry. Commissioner Satterfield was clear that he hadn't heard from anyone in the city who supported the idea. So to state once again, if he wants to open a quarry, Mr. Murphy will have to file a request to the Loudon County Planning Commission for a zoning change that would allow a quarry, then it would be up to the Greenback city council if they would allow the zoning change. If Greenback city council were to approve the zoning change, Murphy would still have to request and receive a special exception from the Loudon County Planning Commission/BZA to operate a quarry. Any variation or slight of hand by Murphy would certainly trigger a lawsuit through the Loudon County Planning Commission. Not my opinion, just the facts. |
