Fugate On Taxes

"When you pay your taxes, you should be asked if you're pleased with what you paid for.
If you would've said no, then vote for me. Let's make Loudon County Great!"

I'm always bothered when I see political candidates make vague statements with innuendo yet offer no explanation to their statements. Such is the statements above by county commission candidate, Marty Fugate.

The insinuation seems to be that Mr. Fugate might not be happy with how the county spends your taxes. But somehow, if you'll just vote for him, that would change?

Fugate didn't mention which tax expenditures he doesn't like. Is he opposed to funding the county school system, the sheriff's department, jail, judicial system? How about the highway department? Or maybe he wants to cut funding to the offices that provide all the county services or maybe the health department? See, we just don't know where he plans to spend tax dollars better if he's elected.

Mr. Fugate may not realize that Loudon County has the fourth lowest property tax rate in the state. And even at that, through extremely conservative budgeting, the current commission has been able to provide and grow services to the residents.

Another good question for Mr. Fugate, how about being specific about what you, as one county commissioner if elected, would do to make Loudon County great?

To be honest, Loudon County is already great. Adding another Tony Aikens supporter to county commission wouldn't be great for anybody.

As a side note, I've noticed that Marty has chosen Lenoir City school colors for his campaign signs and literature. That's all fine and good, I just hope he understands he's running for county commission and not Lenoir City school board or council.
