Fred Chaney Passes

Allen Chaney age 69 of Loudon passed away Thursday, October 5, 2023, at
his home. Fred was a longtime member of the Loudon Cumberland
Presbyterian Church.
Fred attended Sewanee: The University of the South, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and most importantly, where he met the love of his life, Lisa. Among Fred’s many accomplishments, he was a member of the 1969 Loudon High School State Championship Football Team. While a teacher at Philadelphia Elementary School, Fred used his skills to coach basketball and assisted the football program at Loudon High School. Education was important to Fred. He attended the University of Tennessee where he earned his Master’s Degree and served as President of the ATO fraternity. Additionally, Fred volunteered his time to assist inmates in achieving their GED. Fred went on to serve as the Clerk and Master of the Loudon County Chancery Court, retiring with 36 years of service. Fred was inducted into the State Clerks Association of Tennessee Hall of Fame. Amongst his many affiliations, Fred was a 40-year member of the Masonic Lodge 204 F&AM, a member of The Highlanders, he served as president of the COAT Association, and enjoyed many years as a member of Creek in the Woods, as well as being a charter member of Jr. Creek. It goes without saying that Fred embraced life to the fullest. He was a devoted family man, who took great pride in his three sons and their accomplishments. His grandchildren brought him great joy and he loved spending time with them. As an only son, Fred had a loving and respectful relationship with his mother. Fred loved to dance the “Shag” especially with his wife, Lisa and was also a world famous “Tater-Digger.” He was a man of great detail and always thinking of others needs. Everything he did, he did well. Fred is preceded in death by his father, James Chaney; mother-in-law, Joanne Von Dane; father-in-law, Jack Killion; close friends, Randy McGill, Tim Daniels, Ronnie Roberts and Jim “Noodle” Greer. He is survived by his college sweetheart and devoted wife of nearly 47 years, Lisa Chaney; sons and daughters-in-law, Cameron and Andrea, Blake and Rayven, Barrett and Mandy; grandchildren, Cayden, Brock, Zaiyah, and Zyler Chaney; his beloved mother, Carolyn Chaney; uncle, Ed Bell; aunt Jean DeFord; brother-in-law, Gary (Libby) Killion; sister-in-law, Kay Herrell; several nieces and nephews; close cousins, Steve and Linda DeFord, Sandy and Woody Bell, Leann and Tommy Edmonds, Patti and Doug Staley, Regina and Dwaine Roberts and many other extended relatives; special friends, Red Waller, Gordo Watson, Jacky Lefler, Charlie Bettis, Tim Guider, Gary Dutton, Bo Carey, Chinie and Paula Smallen; and a multitude of friends within the Masonic Lodge 204 F&AM, Sewanee: The University of the South, and Creek in the Woods. Services to celebrate Fred’s life will be held 6 PM Sunday, October 15th in the McGill Click Chapel with Rev. Mark Hester officiating. Honorary pallbearers, Ed Bell, Cayden and Brock Chaney, and Riley Herrell. Pallbearers, Cameron, Blake and Barrett Chaney, Doug Staley, Bobby Lankford and Jared Reagan. Interment will be 11 AM Monday in the Corinth Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Fred may be made to the Loudon Cumberland Presbyterian Church, P.O.
