For The "Record"

Maybe I've always been wrong, but I've never been the trusting kind. I tend to doubt most things I read and hear until I know the facts myself. Apparently, in this era, the rule of thumb is to believe anything you read or hear without knowing any of the facts.

Once again, I find myself in the position of having to address information being spewed on social media that is just flat wrong. Everybody can calm down, vital county records are safe and sound. No significant records were lost in the courthouse fire.

Property deeds, tax records, meeting minutes, property maps and so on are safe and sound. There are some old books and documents stored in the basement at the courthouse that definitely got water damage and may be lost but they are not vital records. Nearly ever historical county document and record has been digitally scanned or preserved on microfilm long ago.

Furthermore, Loudon County government is not in violation of any record keeping laws. Every elected official and department head is well aware of record keeping and storage requirements.

Everyone can take a lesson here, just because you read in on the internet doesn't make it true. You never know why someone would post information that's not true. Sometimes, people just have personal agendas, maybe got their feelings hurt or maybe just have a personal ax to grind.

Be cautious when digesting internet gospel. It may be coming from false prophets.
