Five arrested on drug charges at motel

Five people are facing drug charges after law enforcement conducted a search warrant Nov. 1 at a motel on U.S. Highway 321.

Agents with the Ninth Judicial Drug Task Force, Loudon County Sheriff’s Office and Lenoir City Police Department talked with Jacob Daniel Dalton, 33, Tellico Plains, who rented a room with four others.

After searching Dalton, officers produced a container with 2 1/2 Opana pills, a Schedule II narcotic. Dalton could not give a valid prescription for the pills, according to the report.

“A search of the room produced several items of drug paraphernalia, including numerous needles, several pill grinders and plastic bags,” Officer Brenden Deboer, with the drug task force, wrote in his report. Officers also found two soda cans in the bathroom sink that were being used to liquefy pills in order to be put in a needle and shot up, according to the report.

Before the search, agents observed “several” occupants perform hand-to-hand transactions with people throughout the day.
