First Meeting

Tonight, 11/25, will be the first Lenoir City council meeting since the election. Unfortunately, according to the agenda, newly elected council member, Robin McNabb, will not be sworn in until the end of the meeting.

It will be interesting to see if the mayor changes his ways after the election. After all, if you consider how big the vote was for his challenger, Wayne Collins, then add to that the under vote, those who didn't vote for either candidate, nearly 2,000 city voters did not vote for Aikens. His total vote was 2,366. Aikens has held office in the city for 21 years. Maybe councilman, Eddie Simpson, will change his ways too. After serving on council for 26 years, he just barely held on to his seat, coming in at a distant 3rd place.

The voters of Lenoir City made it pretty clear they're tired of the status quo. Will city officials listen? Doubtful.

One curious item on the agenda is an amendment to the one year moratorium on any new apartments/multifamily developments passed back in June. Not sure what that's about but likely something to help an Aikens acquaintance. Time will tell.

The meeting will be at city hall beginning at 6:00 pm.
