First Baptist Tellico Village holds Blessing of Bikers

thedailytimes.com-Wednesday night Bible Study and fellowship at First Baptist Church of Tellico Village had some special significance for about 25 motorcycle enthusiasts and their spouses.

Pastor Charlie Barnard offered a prayer in which he asked God to protect the motorcyclists, give them a keen sense of awareness of their surroundings and keep them safe during the coming biking season.

A few months ago, members of the Tellico Riders approached Pastor Barnard and asked that he perform a ceremony for them. Being an avid motorcycle rider himself, he agreed and this Blessing of the Bikers will hopefully become an annual event.

This summer Charlie and his wife Teresa, along with friends Sherry and Jack Green, will ride their motorcycles over 6,500 miles to Nova Scotia and back, raising money for each mile ridden to fund the third Habitat house sponsored by First Baptist Church of Tellico Village.

The three-week trip will start with a Kick-off dinner (provided by Chick-fil-A of Lenoir City) on Aug. 3 at the Church. The two couples will leave that evening for Bristol, for the night, then on to Washington, D.C., New York, Boston and Nova Scotia. Their trip will continue with stops in Quebec, Montreal, Toronto and Niagara Falls. On their way back, they will travel to Pittsburg and Hurricane, W.Va. before coming home to a victory dinner at the Church on Aug. 24.

For more information about how you can help sponsor their trip, call the church office at 865-408-0110 or the Habitat office at 865-458-0704, Option 2, Ext 4.

Loudon County Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a worldwide Christian housing organization.

All funds to build in Loudon County are raised locally to provide safe, affordable houses for low-income families who are willing to partner with Habitat.

These partner families help build their houses and then buy them from Habitat through a no-interest mortgage.

Funds from these mortgages go into a Fund for Humanity which allows Habitat to build other houses.
