Filling A Vacancy
The passing of commissioner Duff creates a vacancy on
county commission. By law, the county commission has 120 days to fill
the vacancy with an appointment. That appointment will be until the next
county general election which will be August 2024. I will have a recommendation at the next workshop for someone to fill Commissioner Duff's vacant seat. I will be recommending Joe Morrison. Joe is the nephew of Mr. Duff. Joe lives in the heart of the 5th district and has a great interest in his district and the county. Joe is a conservative republican and I feel will be a great addition to county commission. And I know without a doubt, Mr. Duff would be very pleased that Joe could be filling the position of Loudon County Commissioner Seat (A) 5th district. It will ultimately be up to the full commission to vote on the appointment. Historically, commission has chosen a family member to finish the term of a deceased elected official. In 2001, at the passing of commissioner, Ted Randalph, commissioners appointed Mr. Randalph's daughter. In 2017 at the passing of school board member, Ric Best, commissioners appointed his wife to finish his term. Hopefully, we can have the vacancy filled before the end of the year.
