Evacuations issued after gas leak in Greenback near Highway 95

GREENBACK, Tenn. (WATE) — Officials evacuated a 1,000-foot radius around the 7400 block of Highway 95 after a natural gas leak, the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office shared.

LCSO deputies and firefighters from the Greenback Volunteer Fire Department are worked to evacuate the area.

Earlier in the morning, road closures were implemented on Highway 95 at Tarwater Road and Highway 411. At 10:30 a.m., LCSO said those road closures had been lifted, but emergency responders are still on site as utility crews work on the necessary repairs.

“Emergency responders are worked  diligently to assess the situation and contain the leak,” LCSO posted. “They urged everyone to stay clear of the affected area and follow any instructions provided by law enforcement and emergency personnel. Your safety is our top priority.”
