News Herald Arrest Report
Deputy stops ‘escapee’ with restraining order STAFF REPORTS In the early hours of the morning of Monday, May 19, Deputy Dakota Ezell responded to a call at a residence reporting a visitor who was unwanted. Once Ezell arrived and made contact with the complainant, he learned that Jason Roberts had left his rehabilitation facility and entered the residence against the orders of restraint provided to him previously. This was confirmed as, while inside the residence, deputies found a court order stating that Roberts wasn’t to return to the residence he was currently in until his custody with the Miracle Lake program had ended. The order also stated that if Roberts left the program without official approval, he would return to Loudon County Jail to turn himself in or be charged with one count of escape. The order also stated that he was prohibited from contact, direct or indirect, with the complainant who called the deputies in the first place. With Roberts found to be guilty of all of those charges, he was escorted back to the Loudon County Detention Facility. DEPUTY STOPS PAROLE VIOLATOR Around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, Deputy Ethan Owens was sent to an address on White Wing Road where a male on the scene was identified as already having an active warrant for driving under the influence. The man was later confirmed to be Joseph Duggan, who was booked through Loudon County Jail, and was now on the scene of a breathing difficulty call. When Owens and Deputy Justin Willis arrived on the scene, EMS was already inside giving assistance to a patient. Owens knocked on the door to which the first responder and patient exited — and Owens and Willis were told that Duggan was out back. When Deputy Willis began to yell for Duggan, he heard the back door slam shut. Deputy Owens immediately exited out of the front of the house to circle around to the backyard, where he saw a white male. Owens began to command that the male come to him and began asking questions to him, all of which the male refused to do. After multiple attempts to beckon the man closer to Owens, the man eventually made a dash back inside the house. Owens tried once again to ask him to stop, which was again ignored. He then pulled out his Taser to attempt to stop him, which proved unsuccessful. Duggan then entered the home and shut the back door. It was at this time that Owens remembered the front door had been unlocked to which he sprinted back to the front of the house to find Duggan exiting through the front entrance of the house. Duggan then jumped over a fence in an attempt to escape when Owens was finally able to grab him, wrestle him to the ground and place him into custody at Loudon County Jail.
