News Herald Arrest Report

Deputy pulls over swerving truck, finds loaded handgun

from staff report

On Tuesday, Feb. 4, Deputy Owens was on his way to assist an officer on a service call when he spotted a truck swerving ahead of him — eventually maneuvering into the opposite lane and failing to adhere to lane markers while driving.

The deputy activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to catch up to the vehicle, and when eventually doing so the truck rolled through a red light at the Highway 70 and Highway 321 intersection, according to reports.

When Owens made contact with the driver after pulling him over, the deputy immediately noticed the driver’s glossy and bloodshot eyes and how disoriented he seemed.

Deputy Owens tailed the truck into a nearby Weigel’s parking lot to conduct his investigation, and reportedly could smell the alcohol coming off of the individual — Jean McGuire — who initially admitted to drinking three (alcoholic) beverages earlier that evening. Owens reported that McGuire was slurring his words.

When asked to step out of the vehicle, the suspect began to stumble and have trouble regaining control of his balance. McGuire declined the field sobriety test and was promptly arrested for driving under the influence.

Upon a search of McGuire’s vehicle, Deputy Owens also found a loaded .9 mm P365 handgun in his passenger seat — concealed in a handbag. McGuire originally agreed to doing a blood test, but then declined it once he was transported to the hospital.

DOMESTIC DISPUTE SETTLED

On Tuesday, Feb. 4, Deputy Willis and Sgt. Rogers responded to a disturbing call on an open 911 line that originated from Dawson Road.

Dispatch gave the two officers updates as they approached the scene, where a man could be heard screaming at a female — stating he was going to drag her by her hair up the driveway. The male also continued to make statements that he was going to kill her unborn child, and you could hear the female screaming throughout the call on the open line, according to police reports.

When the two law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, they began to give commands through the vehicle’s loudspeaker and reportedly could hear the man telling the woman to say that nothing had happened should the police question her.

Both the man and the woman eventually exited the home, and the man was detained. Once the home was searched thoroughly, Deputy Willis read the male, Timothy Whitehead, his Miranda rights.

Whitehead proceeded to tell Deputy Willis that the call had originated from his phone, and that he and the female hadn’t argued that day. The suspect said that the screaming heard was directed at the dog.

The victim said that they had indeed had an argument … and when she tried to leave, Whitehead would chase her down the driveway — grabbing her by her hair and arms.

She was then picked up by a neighbor and driven home, while Whitehead was taken into police custody for domestic assault.

When running a background check on both subjects the female, Ashley Bogle, came back with a warrant from Bradley County for violation of probation. … Both subjects were eventually transported to the Loudon County Detention Facility.
