Courthouse Update
The Trusses Are Here
After more than three and a half years, the
courthouse reconstruction has reached a major milestone. The trusses for
the new roof are here. Beginning this week, workers will begin the
process of removing the temporary and installing the new permanent roof.
The temporary roof will be removed in small sections and replaced with
the new trusses sealed and made water tight before removing the next
section of temporary roof. This process will take a while to complete.
This phase of the construction is slated to be done by May. After this phase is done, work to rebuild the interior will begin. Thus far, the insurance company has spent a total of $4,480,368.00. That includes all salvage, stabilization, construction, rentals for temporary facilities and so on. My guess is a couple more years to finish. I suspect if the insurance company knew then what they know now, they would never have decided to salvage the building. Had they declared it a total loss, we could already have had a new building done and moved in. Oh well. |
