Countersuit For 250k

In the drama that never seems to end in Greenback, the Greenback Volunteer Fire Department has now filed a countersuit against the city asking the court for $250,000.00.

According to the lawsuit filed by The City Of Greenback back in March, former mayor Tom Peeler signed quitclaim documents giving the fire department certain property owned by the city after he was no longer the mayor. They also claim that proper actions to allow such a quitclaim to be granted were never taken by the city council.

Now the Greenback Volunteer Fire Department, who was the recipient of the free property, is suing the city asking for $250,000.00 from the city for their problems.

The real bazaar part of this story is one of the lawyers involved. Attorney Jim Scott, had been the acting attorney for the city of Greenback for several years including the time when former mayor Peeler was in the process of giving away the city property. Scott resigned his city position on or about the same day the mayor signed the quitclaim of the city property to the fire department. Scott is now representing the fire department in the quarter million dollar countersuit.

So Mr. Scott was advising the former mayor on giving away the property and now he's advising the fire department on how to get big dollars from the city? Something about that just doesn't make since. This is the same Jim Scott that use to represent Lenoir City too.

Below are links to the new lawsuit and the original suit. Best I can understand it, the new countersuit, the fire department wants to keep the property and get the $250,000.00. Pretty good deal for them if they can get it.
