Corona Insanity

Now that we're many weeks into the Chinese Corona Virus, we're learning a lot about how it may effect different people. The "experts" tell us that 50% of those effected will never know they have the virus. Of those that do know they have it, 80% will have only mild symptoms. The rest could have severe symptoms and some will die. Of those that die, 90% have/had pre-existing, underlying medical issues that made them more susceptible to the virus.

The group of people that seem to be most effected by the virus are many politicians and most of the media. The virus seems to cause insanity in these two groups of people. It isn't known if the insanity will be temporary. Even our Governor Lee has succumbed to the insanity.

Did you know that no government official can stop folks from gathering? It's right there in the First Amendment of the constitution.

The First Amendment to the United States Constitution states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress.

The 14th amendment also makes this applicable to state governments.

What does freedom of assembly mean? The right to hold public meetings and form associations without interference by the government. Freedom of peaceful assembly is guaranteed by the First Amendment. So no matter what you hear, government officials can not over ride the constitution. Private companies, stores, businesses other private enterprises can set all the regulations they want but not the government.

It's so frightening to see how quickly the government has taken powers they don't have and even more frightening to see how quickly folks are willing to give up their rights.

As I've said before, there's no doubt this virus is nasty and a lot of people are going to get sick and some will die. I may very well be one of those. But I'll be danged if I'm going to give up my rights and freedoms at the whims of a government I don't necessarily trust.

We should all take every precaution to avoid contracting the virus, or giving it to anyone else, as we would during any seasonal sickness. But to have shut down the entire country and put millions out of work, sure seems to have been an awful strong reaction to a virus with a 98% survival rate.

The Tennessee shutdown does not include religious or ceremonial events. Easter Sunday, and every Sunday hereafter, our churches should be open for those who want to attend. People know how to distance themselves. For those who don't want to attend, nearly every church is streaming on the internet.

Those of us who are of the Christian faith should certainly be thankful that Jesus Christ didn't tell his Father that He was afraid to come to earth two thousand years ago because He was afraid he might catch something.
