Convenience Centers
Sometimes we have to wonder just what we get for our tax dollars on the local level. Things that comes to mind are law enforcement, public education and roads. But there's another great service that your tax dollars pay for that may be as good as any. That's the three convenience centers in Loudon County. 100% free for all Loudon County residents. The convenient centers are managed by Chris Parks and he does an outstanding job managing the centers and getting the tax payers the best bang for the buck. There's one in Lenoir City, Loudon and Greenback. The amount of trash and recyclables that go through these three facilities is unbelievable. The whole concept for the convenience centers is to provide a place for residents to dispose of any kind of waste they have, no charge, and to keep people from being tempted to throw trash and junk in places it shouldn't be. The centers don't just take garbage, they take and recycle metals, appliances, electronics, paper, plastics, cardboard, motor oil, paint and more. Last year, the three centers combined for a total of 6,059 tons of household garbage. That's over twelve million pounds of garbage. On the recycling side, the two big ones are cardboard and metal. Last year, they recycled 1,373,588 lbs of cardboard and 1,192,875 lbs. of metals. all recycling was a total of 3,411,946 lbs. That's that many tons of waste that didn't have to go into the landfill and the county actually gets money for most of the recyclables. As I said before, the convenience centers, are a great deal for Loudon County residents. You can sure pay to have your garbage picked up at your house but you don't have to. Loudon County has three recycling and convenience centers, located in Greenback, Lenoir City, and Loudon. Please help us reduce the cost of landfill expense and save landfill space by recycling!
