Clinton woman arrested for drugs, contraband

A Clinton woman was taken into custody Sunday after law enforcement received a call of an erratic driver on Interstate 75.

Loudon County Sheriff's Office Deputy Kevin Dailey learned from dispatch that the driver was going south on I-75 and had gotten off at Exit 72, and about 10 minutes later dispatch received another call that a car matching the same description was going north on the interstate and pulled off at Exit 76, according to the arrest report.

During the traffic stop, the driver, Leisa Marie Travis, 38, Clinton, displayed signs of intoxication, and she told Dailey she had a revoked license, which was confirmed through dispatch.

Travis failed field sobriety tests, was detained and refused implied consent, Dailey wrote, noting that Travis told the deputy she had taken gabapentin that morning.

"While inventory of the vehicle was done, a Hydrocodone pill bottle (4 pills) with the name William Wheat, who is her boyfriend that is in jail, was found inside the glove box," Dailey wrote.

Before being checked in at Loudon County Jail, deputies asked Travis twice if she had anything illegal in her possession. During a search at the jail, officers found 1 gram of marijuana inside Trave's vagina, according to the report.

Travis was charged with contraband in a penal institution, driving on a revoked/suspended license, driving under the influence, two counts of simple possession/casual exchange and violation of implied consent and held on $38,000 bond.
