Citizen tip leads to arrest of Loudon County deadly shooting suspect

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (WATE) - The Loudon County Sheriff's Office says the suspect in a deadly shooting Monday morning was captured in West Knoxville thanks to a tip from a citizen.

Sheriff Tim Guider says an "observant citizen" spotted David T Miles's vehicle and recognized it to be the same vehicle and tag deputies said they were looking for as part of their investigation.

The citizen called 911 and officers from the Knoxville Police Department and Knox County Sheriff's Office stopped his vehicle in the Walker Springs area and took Miles into custody.

Miles has been taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries he sustained prior to his arrest.

The sheriff's office says they were called to a home on Lee Hi Street in Lenoir City at 8:16 a.m. for a report of gunshots in the area. When deputies arrived, they found a man dead from what appears to be gunshot wounds. Deputies are not releasing the man's identity at this time.

"It's tragic. It's really sad," said Linda Hudson who lives in Loudon County.

"I had just gotten my kids off to the bus and saw about five undercover cops and five county cops fly by down Highway 11. I live down by the Justice Center and I was wondering what was going on," added Jonathan Conaway who also lives in Loudon County.

Investigators say they believe they know the motive, but they're not sharing that information yet. The Sheriff's Office is also not releasing whether Miles and the victim knew each other.

"God has to get us all through it. It's the only way we can survive but I pray for the family, the one that was killed and I pray that they capture the person before they do any more damage," said Hudson earlier in the afternoon.

"Pray for them. It's all you can do. Keep them in your prayers and try to help them as much as you can. Love your neighbor as you would love yourself," added Conaway.

Schools near the shooting scene were placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure until Miles' capture. Miles was believed to be armed with a shotgun and a 9mm handgun.
