Caution Lights Coming

At the request of a lot of people, caution lights will be placed on Hwy. 11 on both sides of the Old Stage Road intersection. Hopefully, the new lights will be up in a month or so. The new lights will be on solar powered and on the right of way well before the intersection.

Certainly, a full red light might be better as much traffic as there in there now, however, TDOT won't allow red lights without turn lanes on all approaches. So for now, we'll get the caution lights and start working on TDOT to get a full intersection up grade in the future.

Now for a little free history. Old Stage Road from Knox County into Loudon County, is one of the oldest roads in the state, dating back to the early 1800's. It was the stage coach road from Knoxville to Kingston then to Nashville. Thus, Old Stage Road. There's one other small section of the original old stage coach road incorporated into Ford Road just after it crosses Town Creek. Dixie Lee Baptist Church was formerly known as Midway Church because that area was midway between Knoxville and Kingston. At one point in history, the old stage road was called Broadway of America. Highway 11 and 70 in Loudon County weren't completed until the mid 1920's.

Next time you're driving on Old Stage, just remember all the stage coaches and Civil War soldiers who traveled it before you.
