Car wrecks into Lenoir City restaurant

A Knoxville man was arrested Saturday after ramming his car into the side of a fast food restaurant on U.S. Highway 321.

Lenoir City Police Officer Jamie Ketner responded to a call at 11:38 a.m. of a one-vehicle wreck at Zaxby’s. Ketner noticed the vehicle caused “significant damage” to the wall, leading the restaurant’s tables to be pushed back due to the impact.

Witnesses identified Samuel L. Franklin, 22, and a female passenger. When Ketner spoke with Franklin, he noticed he had a “strong odor” of alcohol, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet.

“Phillips stated that they were in an argument and Franklin got upset, sped the vehicle and crashed into Zaxby’s restaurant,” Ketner wrote in a report. “Franklin recklessly engaged in a conduct that placed Phillips and the people inside Zaxby’s in imminent danger of death and/or serious bodily injury.”

Phillips performed poorly on field sobriety testing and had a blood alcohol content level of .124, according to Ketner’s report. He said he had smoked marijuana and drank alcohol the night before.
Franklin was charged with reckless endangerment and driving under the influence and held without bond.
Baby outfit leads to assaultA Loudon woman is facing a pair of domestic assault charges after another woman approached Loudon County Sheriff’s Office deputies Sunday looking to file a report.
The woman approached LCSO Deputies Dalton Harrison and Cody Bengel saying she had been attacked at a residence off Bat Creek Road East after she tried to break up a fight between Katelyn Mae Walden, 18, and a man. She said Walden grabbed her by the hair when she tried breaking up the fight and punched her “several times,” Harrison wrote in a report.
Harrison noticed the woman had scratches and cuts on her neck, arms and face and blood coming from her mouth.
“I then spoke with (the man) who stated he and Katelynn had been in an argument over what clothes he had dressed their baby in to go to a clinic,” Harrison wrote in a report. “He stated Katelynn then punched him in the face and side of the head because she did not like the outfit he had picked out for the baby.”
Harrison noticed a red mark on the side of the man’s head.
Based on physical injuries and statements gathered, law enforcement arrested Walden.
Walden was charged with two counts of domestic assault and held without bond.
