News Herald Arrest report
Car chase ends in crash, many
charges
An
Englewood man was arrested Sunday in Loudon County after a
lengthy car chase ended when he crashed his vehicle into a
power pole.
Loudon County Sheriffs Deputy Dalton Harrison saw a driver fail to use a turn signal when entering Interstate 75 and changing lanes. After Harrison ran the plate number, he learned the registration was expired and belonged to a different vehicle. He attempted a traffic stop, but the car continued to accelerate and passed several vehicles on the shoulder. Harrison initiated a pursuit, which took him past three mile markers, off the interstate at exit 68 and onto Pond Creek Road, Highway 11, Fork Creek Road and Calloway Road. On Calloway, the driver lost control during a sharp turn and ran through a barbed wire fence but continued through a field and attempted to hide in a driveway.
Harrison drove
past the driveway while looking for the car, only for it
to appear behind him and speed in the opposite
direction. Harrison had called for backup and the
runaway driver hit a second patrol car head on in his
attempts to elude capture, causing minor injuries to a
LCSO deputy.
The driver raced back onto Fork Creek toward Highway 11 but lost control as he accelerated past a stop sign and slammed into a power pole. Harrison exited his patrol car and placed the driver, Larry Dewayne Trueblood Jr., 28, in custody. The passenger in the vehicle, who told deputies she had repeatedly asked Trueblood to stop during the chase, was also placed in custody, transported by EMS to Fort Loudoun Medical Center for minor injuries and later released. Trueblood refused EMS at the scene. Asked why he fled, he replied stupidity, according to Harrisons report. A search of the vehicle revealed two needles, a scale and clear baggies with crystal-like residue. Trueblood was charged with aggravated assault, two counts of reckless endangerment, evading arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, display of registration plate, driving on revoked/suspended license, traffic control signals, improper passing, driving on roadways laned for traffic, due care, requirement for stop signs and vehicles and speed limit and held without bond.
