Campaign Kickoff 3

You may remember back in September, 2023, I reported on Lenoir City mayor, Tony Aikens campaign kickoff for his next mayor race, held in Knox County with, no city residents included on the committee. Then a couple weeks later, he went to his Facebook page, which he despises, to try to explain his reasons for going to Knox County? Well the numbers are in and it looks like the cash haul was a whopper.

Elected officials must file financial reports with the Loudon County election commission when they receive or expend campaign money. Aikens most recent report was filed last week for the period of 7/1/23-1/15/24.

For that period, which includes the campaign kickoff, Aikens raked in $44,950.00. There were 79 contributors. Only about 6 of those contributors were from Lenoir City equaling $2,350.00. Aikens gave himself $1,250.00. All the rest came from county, out of county or out of state donors, $41,250.00. So it appears a lot more people who don't live in Lenoir City are more interested in keeping him in office than live in the city.

There were some notable contributions.

The top contributors of all was the Marty Fugate family with Marty and his wife donating $3,000.00 to the mayor. He was also a member of the Aikens campaign kickoff host committee. Marty Fugate is currently running for a seat on the Loudon County commission, with Aikens support.

  • LCUB manager, Shannon Littleton, donated $1,200.00.
  • Chance Harrison, son of Lenoir City judge Greg Harrison, donated $1,000.00.
  • Lenoir City elected Treasurer/Recorder, Jim Wilburn, donated $1,000.00.
  • Lenoir City Planning Commissioner/Knox County resident, builder/Developer, Steve Mitchell donated $1,000.00.
  • Blount County realtor Darrell Tipton donated $1,000.00.
  • Former Roane County Property Assessor and State Representative candidate, Teresa Kirkham, donated $1,000.00.
  • Aikens go to lawyer, T. Scott Jones donated $500.00.
  • Lenoir City councilman, Eddie Simpson's wife donated $400.00.
  • LCUB Board member, Mike Arms donated $250.00.
  • Former Knox County mayor, Mike Ragsdale, donated $250.00.
  • Lastly and leastly, Lenoir City council member, Jennifer Wampler donated $100.00.

This is just a partial listing of a few of the donors who want Aikens to stay in office.
