Bitcoin Mining
For those of you that have been concerned after
reading stories about bitcoin mining, It's already here.
Back in November of 2021, Jake Greear, a representative for Todd Napier, of Red Dog Technologies, requested to operate a "data center" on leased property in the Hickory Creek Business Park. Mr. Greear was a bit vague what exactly a "data center" was. Ultimately, the Loudon County Planning Commission approved the request. Turns out, it wasn't a "data center" at all. It's a bitcoin mining operation. The development will ultimately have 40 units running 24/7. When all the units are operational, the development will be the largest user of electricity in the LCUB service area, potentially using a million dollars of electricity per month. They also make a whole lot of noise. Below is a video of the development with just 12 of the 40 units operation. This same company was sued by Washington County for lying about what the development was there. Obviously, they did the same thing in Loudon County to get their approval. If this operation is as obnoxiously loud as it appears it's going to be, Loudon County will have to take the same action as Washington County to stop it. We're watching the facility closely. I've already had complaints from surrounding businesses. Just Google, Todd Napier bitcoin, and read all the stories. |
